Jammu, Sept 19: Jammu University Teachers' Association (JUTA) held it general body meeting on other day to deliberate upon long pending issues pertaining to the teaching fraternity of the university and passed resolution for giving extensions to expert senior faculty members instead of making makeshift arrangement. During the meeting Prof J P Singh Joorel, President JUTA presented detailed report on the various issues which were resolved and still pending. "Many resolutions were passed by the house unanimously which include the need of enhancement of the age of superannuation of teachers to 65 years keeping in view to impart quality education and to utilize the expertise of senior faculty members. The house also directed the office bearers to take up this issue in the higher decision making bodies of the university. JUTA members laid stress on the payment of gratuity and other retirement benefits to the retiring teachers on their last working day, fixation of the seniority as per UGC norms, fixation of salaries of the teachers of different grades, adherence of one person one post along with fixed tenure and non dilution of senior positions. The house demanded to improve the working conditions to provide conducive atmosphere for teaching and research besides immediate renovation of the residential quarters. Finally, JUTA showed its displeasure the way in which news items are carried in a section of the media to settle the personal Vedanta. Further, the JUTA took strong objection to the interference of the Minister for Higher Education in the functioning and internal matters of the university and JUTA will not tolerate such directions from any corner particularly in the appointments of various university positions. The proceedings were carried out by Dr. Rakesh Vaid,General Secretary, JUTA whereas formal Vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Vijay Saigal, Joint Secretary, JUTA. The meeting was attended by more than 150 members including Dr Kavita Suri, Dr Vivek Sharma, Prof Neelam Saraf, Prof N K Tripathi, Prof D S Jamwal, Prof V D Singh, Prof Rahul Gupta, Prof Renu Nanda beside other honourable JUTA members.
