Police seize 130 wooden logs, manhunt to nab two smugglers

Kishtwar, Sept 19: Continuing its drive against smuggling of the forest wealth including wooden logs and 'Nag chatri' a herb found in upper reaches of erstwhile Doda district, the Police today claimed to have seized 130 wooden logs from a remote Nagnigard in Keshwan of Kishtwar district while manhunt is on to nab the two alleged smugglers absconding.
"Acting on a tip off about the unauthorized dumping of wooden logs in remote Keshwan of Kishtwar meant for smuggling, a police party from concerned police station under the supervision of Dy SP HQ Kishtwar Farooq Qaseer and SHO Police Station Kishtwar Sameer Jeelani and operational guidance of SP Kishtwar Sanjay Kotwal conducted the raid at the said spot,' police said.
Police added that police during the intensive search of the targeted area recovered approximately 130 wooden logs from the site. "After recovering the illegal wooden logs, police registered FIR No: 178/2013 U/S 379 RPC and 6/39 Forest Act against two accused who were identified namely as Ghulam Mohuddin and Ghulam Hussain both sons of Abdul Jabbar resident of Nagnigard Keshwan, police said further adding, "on seeing the police party coming the duo managed to give a slip to the police party.'
Meanwhile, Police have launched a manhunt to arrest the accused escaped from the spot.
Here it needs to mention that in a similar drive police during the intervening night of September 14/15, a team of District Police Doda lead by Inspector Gurmeet Singh, SHO Police Station Bhaderwah intercepted a Truck (JK02AS-0653) near Domail Bhaderwah seized huge haul of 226 slippers (126 Dewdar, 64 Koil, 02 Fur ) timber being smuggled by the timber mafia to out of the district on September 15 and police had apprehended two persons namely Gai Singh S/o Lakhmi Chand R/o Bhata Kishtwar (Driver of the truck) and Mohammad Ashraf S/o Mohammad Sikinder R/o Chabba Thathri in this regard.
