| Canadian High Commission team visits Jammu University | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 19: A team from the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi headed by Johanne Forest Counsellor (Political and Economic Affairs) along with Jawad Qureshi Analyst for South Asia and Madhusri Das Senior Analyst for Political and Economic Program visited the University of Jammu to interact with the faculty and the students. Earlier, they met the Vice Chancellor of the University Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar where discussions about various issues including the state of higher education took place. The Vice Chancellor apprised them of the various programmes offered by the University as well as the initiatives undertaken by the authorities to make education more meaningful and pertinent. He also informed them about the various campuses that were being set up by the University to broaden the base of higher education in the State. Vinay Thusoo, Public Relations Officer, was also present in the meeting. The team also visited the Faculty of Social Sciences and Department of Economics which hosted the Canadian Delegation in the Department of Economics, University of Jammu. Forest drew the attention of the audience to the shared common values and history of India and Canada pointing out that six of India's Governors-General when India was under British Rule actually had actually served in Canada in the same position. She then turned to the opportunities that Canada had to offer to Indian students, scholars and researchers, especially in the education sector. |
