| Various Educational institutes celebrate Gandhi Jayanti | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 1: The birthdays of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri were celebrated by various schools and colleges across Jammu region. According to press release, Government Degree College (GDC) Rajouri organized a symposium on the theme Communal harmony was the main focus of the event in which more than twelve students presented their views logically and stressed upon the urgent need for substantial measures on the level of government and administrative agencies, the civil society, the educational institutions, youth clubs and non-governmental organizations as a whole for the establishment of a peace and tolerance culture besides strengthening the bonds of love between the communities. The programme was chaired by Mohd Saleem Khan Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajouri and presided over by the Principal GDC Rajouri Dr. J. A. Qazi whereas Dr. M. K. Waqar graced the occasion as guest of honour. A colourful cultural programme added flavor to the event which was applauded by a huge gathering of the students. Mother's Pride and Joy Pre School celebrated organized a function in which children sang and danced on his favourite bhajan - 'Vaishnav jana ko dene ke kahiyeje'. A display dedicated to him, depicting his life and works, his trademark charkha, spectacles, walking stick, was set up in the school lobby for all the students. Teacher's recited many great events marked by Mahatma Gandhi like Dandi March, Non-Violent act and some of the saying by Mahatma Gandhi and his three monkey's were displayed and children were told about three Monkey's Dogra Higher Secondary School also celebrated the event under the supervision of MD Gambhir Dev singh Charak, Principal Devinder Kour and Vice Principal Nirmal Koul. Children of pre-primary classes recited beaufiful poems and showed their patriotism and love for country. KC Playway School BC Road also started week long celebrations, which were inaugurated with the visit to Gandhi Bhawan and following activities would be organized. The preachings of Gandhi Ji were inculcated among students and stressed upon non-violence was laid out. To commemorate birth anniversary of Mahatama Gandhi, NSS Unit and Students Welfare Association of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. On this occasion Principal of the College Dr Kiran Bakshi was the Chief Guest. Dean Students Welfare Prof Sudha Gupta began the proceedings of the programme by throwing light on Gandhi's life and philosophy. It began by lighting the lamp and offering floral tributes to the "Father of Nation." To inculcate the humane touch amongst the students, the NSS unit organized a blood donation camp. A large number of students and teaching staff came forward for the noble cause. Student also recited bhajans and made speeches on Gandhi's life. His favourite bhajans were also sung. Dr Kiran Bakshi in her address said that Gandhi's life was based on self discipline. "He conquered all his desires by following and acting on the principles of truth, ahimsa and sarvodaya," she said and urged all to take a vow to follow path laid by him. A documentary film based on life of Mahatama Gandhi was also shown to the students to inculcate moral values in them. The programme was ended by vote of thanks by Dean Students Welfare Dr Geetanjali A Rana. Government Degree College (GDC) Billawar today celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by organizing a symposium on the topic "Mahatma Gandhi: An Apostle of Peace and Non Violence", wherein the participating students spoke about the prevalent violence in the society and how Gandhian gospels of truth and non - violence can negate this violence in the society. The performances of the students were judged by the jury constituted by Prof. Sanjeev Gupta, Prof. Amit Kumar Sharma and Prof Joginder Kumar. On the basis of their presentation, diction, content and pronunciation, Manika Sharma of B.Sc Part II was adjudged as the best speaker while Vidisha Gupta and Kajal Lalotra of B.Sc Part III stood 2nd and 3rd in the symposium. Prof. Sanjeev Gupta presided over the function and threw light on relevance of Gandhian Philosophy of truth and non-violence in the present times and impressed upon the students to read autobiography of Gandhi "My Experiments with Truth" in order to know about Gandhi and his philosophy. The whole programme was organized under the supervision of Prof. Amit Kumar. A special morning assembly was arranged by the Satyam House at Vishwa Bharati Hr. Sec. School Akalpur , Jammu to celebrate Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti precisely to recall his teachings and Principles. The programme started with "Ragu Patti Raghav Raja Ram…". A talk on his principles was well presented by House master of the week Mrs. Reeta Bambroo and some senior students of the school. It was followed by short skits, songs and dances by students. Every one present was enthralled to see the following blooming buds in the disguise of Gandhi Jee , Keshav from nursery class, Chateniya from LKG, Aadesh and Rudhra both from class second. Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated by Pre Wing of Daffodils Care Convent Play way School with great zeal and enthusiasm. The celebration was started with a poem by Agria Sharma. Children sang patriotic songs and also danced. Special message was conveyed by children disguised as the three monkeys of Gandhi ji . Principal Mrs. Shikha Puri encouraged the children on the occasion and highlighted the teaching of Gandhi Ji and stressed on following the same. One the eve of Gandhi Jayanti and International Peace day of United Nations (UN), GCPCS, University of Jammu arranged a PPT of about 25 slides entitled "My life is my message" on Tuesday. Different Gandhian values were highlighted in this presentation in a gathering of faculty members and research scholars of the Department of Political Science and people from the staff of the JU. Gandhian values like 'Clean Politics', 'Non -Violence and Truth' were highlighted in the presentation followed by an interaction. The best part as an impact of this presentation and interaction was Pratiyogita Sharma who has decided to do her Ph. D on the topic "Role of Media in Indian Democracy: A Study in Gandhian Perspective." At this presentation and interaction session, Dr B B Anand from Parade College, Dr Vishal Sharma from Gandhi Nagar College, Dr Munir Allam from Department of DSRS participated. Priyanka Dubey, Shivani Sharm, Ritika Sharma, Kuldeep Sharma, Tilak Sharma, Vandana Sharma, Pratijogita Sharma, Shivali Sharma and Karan Bir Singh also presented their papers on the occasion. ASN Higher Secondary School Channi Himmat Tues conducted inter-school debate competition in which students from four higher seconday schools participated. Chairman Adarsh Educational Trust A K Kapoor presided over the function while Commissioner Municipal Corporation Jammu Kiran Wattal, Superintendent of Police, Jammu Sandeep Mehta, Joint Secretary, J&K State Board of School Education, Vidya Ratan Sharma, Prof Shiv Dev Manhas and H R Fakru were the guests of honor. The topic of the competition was "GandhiJi's contribution towards India's development." Besides ASN school, students from Tiny Tots, Sainik Colony, GHSS Channi Himmat and Jammu Public School, Sainik Colony participated in the event. The function started with lighting of traditional lamp by the guests followed by Vandey Matram presented by the participants. Kapoor presented the welcome address. Diksha Ganjoo of ASN School, Ifra Anjum of Tiny Tots and Ruksana Choudhary of Jammu Public School bagged first, second and third prizes respectively. Sadia of Tiny Tots and Zakir Hussain of GHSS Channi HImmat bagged consolation prizes. Meanwhile, a special assembly was organized by the students of the junior wing of DPS Jammu to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in its premises today. The program commenced with the floral tributes offered to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi by the Principal, S. Sonar and the Headmistress, Ruchi Chabra. A variety of programs were presented by the children under the guidance of their teachers, comprising skits , songs and dances, all depicting the life, philosophy and ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi, the great patriot of the nation. Lauding the performances by the children, the Principal, S. Sonar congratulated the teachers for preparing the children for the program. He also offered his heart-felt wishes to Late Shri Lai Bahadur Shastri, another renowned patriot of the country who shares his birthday with Mahatma Gandhi.
