| Convenient postings for teachers bear 30k-40k tag | | School Education in jeopardy | | Majid Ahmad SRINAGAR, Oct 1: The School Education Department in the State is in virtual mess due to the wrong policies of coalition Government in the last almost five years and student community is its worst victims. Sources told Early Times that hundreds of teachers who were promoted during last one year in master grade have been the worst victims of the wrong policies of Director Education Kashmir Mir Tariq Ali. "Some of the teachers who hail from far flung villages have been posted in Srinagar city while those who belong to the city have been transferred to remote villages. In hundreds of cases money deals were done." "There is a proper rate list for transfers in the Directorate Office and the Director and his team is dealing through touts. Rs 30-40 thousand are being charged from poor teachers for postings and those who fail to pay the money are being transferred to far flung areas," they alleged. Similarly, they said, some Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers having political connections have been transferred in violation of rules in several districts of the Valley. According to rules a ReT teacher can't be transferred. "However, the Director in connivance with some of his Chief Education Officers (CEOs) has managed the transfers of blue-eyed ReT teachers in violation of rules. This has created shortage of teachers in the schools where they are needed," sources said. A senior official of the department claimed that the Director was taking the Education Minister Tara Chand for a ride. "As Tara Chand is already in a process to shift Director School Education Jammu, Director Kashmir is taking advantage of the situation. He knows that the Minister isn't in a position to shift both the directors as few of his Cabinet colleagues are creating problems for him in the Cabinet meetings," he claimed. The official said that ever since present Government took over, Ministers who held education portfolio remained in news for wrong reasons due to which the officers in the department are taking undue advantages. "First it was Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed who had to come on defensive after exam-gate issue in which his foster son was involved surfaced. Now Tara Chand has been facing problems during the last few months. The officers in the Department are happy that Ministers are involved in problems as that give them a chance to do whatever they wish," he added. A recently promoted teacher who was transferred to a remote village wishing anonymity said that worst sufferers of 'chaos' in the department are students. "How can I attend the school and teach the students when I have to travel 40 kilometres every day. While blue-eyed teachers from remote areas have been posted in city schools, those who deserved a chance have been discriminated. It is affecting the performance of teachers like me," he added. |
