| Kashmiri Hindu Shrines Bill unlikely in ongoing Assembly Session | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 1: The Government will try to bring all stake holders on Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and religious places to negotiating table before the formation of a Shrine Board for management and protection of Kashmiri Hindu shrines in Valley. Sources said with the row among various stake holders over the Bill lying with Select Committee for scrutiny the same may unlikely to be taken up for the passage by the House in the ongoing session at Srinagar which started yesterday. Though majority of Kashmiri Pandits who are for formation of Shrine Board for all Hindu shrines and temples in the Valley are pinning high hopes in the Government to take up the Bill for passage in the on going session. But the indications given by the Government reveal that the Bill will not be taken up for the passage during the ongoing session with the open opposition from various individual trusts for its passage. It may be recalled that Dharmarth Trust, Sadhu Samaj, Chinar Trust and some trusts run by KP organisations including Tirath Raj Mattan are opposed to bringing the shrines run by them under the purview of the Bill. The issue regarding the passage of the Bill also figured in the Parliamentary Standing Committee yesterday at New Delhi as the issue was raised by KP organisations with the Committee during their last meeting on July 30 and September 19 at New Delhi. The members of the Standing Committee were informed by the representatives of J&K Government that the Bill is lying with Selection Committee of the House and it had called all the stake holders to seek their opinion. The Committee was also informed that the State Government is trying to resolve the issue among them by initiating negotiations among the stakeholders. Meanwhile Law Minister, Mir Saifullah has expressed Government's total willingness in passage of the Bill and has assured the Kashmiri Pandits of Government's commitment in this regard. It may be recalled that Dharmarth trust and Sadhu Samaj are demanding that the 45 shrines managed by them including holy Kheer Bhawani Shrine of Tulamulla in Ganderbal, Jawala Ji temple at Khrew and Shankaracharya temple of Srinagar be excluded from the Bill and the Board be formed for the management of rest 600 Hindu shrines and temples in Valley. This demand has been opposed by the Kashmiri Pandits who are for the formation of Board for all the Hindu shrines in Valley. Opposing the inclusion of Kheer Bhwani and Jawala Ji Shrines they said the Kheer Bhawani and Jawala Ji are presiding deities of Kashmiri Pandits and hence be made part of the Shrine Board. |
