| JK's sheep get better healthcare than humans | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 1: The Jammu people have been protesting non-performance of hospitals and Kashmiris are sore about the growing dog menace. While the Government has failed to address both the grievances, an advertisement campaign has been launched to boast of veterinary services in various parts of Jammu region for the livestock. The State needs effective veterinary care for the livestock. It is highly commendable but, human life is supreme and should, therefore, be the primary concern of the Government. If the Government is serious about livestock ( if the picture projected by these advertisements is really true) , it must show same concern (at least) for the humans. The message that the Government has been conveying for the past few years is that the dogs and sheep are better than lesser mortals like human beings . Or, should we conclude that the Health department needs to learn a lesson from the department of Sheep Husbandry and Animal Husbandry? The neglect by the Health Ministry is coming at a time when the State has been awarded for best health services. However, a cursory look on the healthcare in Jammu Kashmir not only explodes the tall claims of the Government but also mourns the wisdom of all those who conferred the award on this neglected State. |
