JAMMU, Oct 1: Residents of Model Town Digiana today held a protest demonstration against the alleged apathy of Power Development Department (PDD) for not replacing damaged transformer in the area, due to which residents are plunged in dark for more than 50 hours. The irate residents lobbed allegations against PDD for not giving heed to their demand of replacement of the damaged transformer. "Owing to the lethargic attitude of the department, people here are suffering without electricity for more than 50 hours, which is multiplying the miseries of the residents," said Lucky, a resident. He added that due to over load, the transformer burnt after a blast around at 6:45am on Sunday which has not been replaced till date. "PDD employees came here to take stock of the situation on Sunday and took away damaged transformer with them, assuring people that it would be replaced by evening. But even after more than 50 hours no other official from PDD has visited the area and no transformer has been replaced," rued Jassi, another resident. Residents claimed that they suffered a great agony and hardships, as the weather is extremely hot and humid, and the repeated requests to the officials of the PDD fell on deaf ears. They (residents) further warned PDD of dire consequences if transformer is not replaced as soon as possible. "We will block national highway, if this attitude of the PDD officials persists," said residents of the area. |
