| 'NVBD Day' observed with awareness campaign in DH Rajouri | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 1: National Voluntary Blood Donation (NVBD) day was observed in the District Hospital Rajouri today which was attended by more than 150 staff members, students and representatives from various NGOs. The occasion was held under the supervision of Dr Arun Sharma, Medical Superintendent District Hospital Rajouri Dr Varinder Mohan , pathologist spoke at length about the importance of blood, and who can donate blood and benefits of blood donation. He said it is well known that transfusion of blood or its components is one of the very important components of the modern health care system. Giving details of the history of the day, Dr Arun Sharma, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital said that observance of National Voluntary Blood Donation (NVBD) Day was started in the country in October 1975, under the initiative of Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohaematology (established on 22nd October 1971) under the guidance of Mrs K.Swaroop Krishe and Dr J G Jolly, the then in charge of blood bank, prestigious health institute PGI Chandigarh. "Objective of celebrating day is to increase awareness among the peopledabout voluntary blood donation and to achieve 100% voluntary blood donation, he said. Koushal Kumar Langer president Rotary Club Rajouri congratulated Medical Superintendent for organizing such programmes and said that to give the safest blood to the needy patients. |
