| Contraband drugs seized at Lakhanpur | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KATHUA, 1 Oct : Excise Staff Toll Post Lakhanpur, made a major break through by foiling the attempt of smuggling banned cough syrup. According to the relevant sources on 01-10-2013 at about 2.30 AM, the driver of truck number JK02U-9647 reported at Import Car/Jeep counter for payment of toll declaring the vehicle as "Empty". The said empty vehicle was physically checked by Sh. Pardeep Kumar Excise Guard in presence of Sub-Inspector Altaf Hussain. During the course of checking 6 cartoons containing 660 bottles of Rexcof Syrup were found hidden in the tool box of the truck. It is worthwhile to mention here that the said consignment was without any relevant documents and as per the opinion of Drug Control Deptt., the consignment is contraband. The detection was made under the supervision of Dy. Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur Dr.Mushtaq Ahmed alongwith Excise & Taxation Officers Suresh Sharma, Sahil Jandyal and Naeem Mugal, Inspectors Excise Manzoor Hussain & Farooq Choudhary and Sub-Inspector Excise Brij Pal Singh & Dheeraj Kumar. The Driver of the vehicle namely Shabir Ahmed S/o Ghulam Mohd. R/o Nagam Budgam and helper Riaz Ahmed S/o Abdul Rashid R/o Kachuri Budgam, alongwith the said consignment and the vehicle was handed over to the Commercial Taxes Department after compounding fine for further n/action at their end who will further handover the same to Assistant Controller Drug, Kathua. Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed Dy. Excise Commissioner Toll Post Lakhanpur has appreciated the efforts of Excise officials and warned the drug smugglers/Tax Evaders to desist from such kind of illegal activities. |
