Sports Reporter JAMMU, Oct 1: Scores of boys and girls from different states of North India exhibited their skills in Badminton during three-day long North Zone Badminton Championship organized by Jammu and Kashmir Badminton Association (JKBA). The championship was today inaugurated by Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Deputy Commissioner Jammu here at Indoor Sports Complex, MA Stadium. Teams from Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir are participating in this event, which will conclude onOctober 3. Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner underlined the importance of sports to inculcate discipline, team spirit and competitive spirit among the youth. He further said that the game of Badminton is emerging as one of the popular games at national as well as international sports arena. The competition will be held in junior boys (u/19) and junior girls (u/19) categories. The winners of the Zonal team championships will qualify for the all India inter zonal Championships for Rahimatoola Cup, Chada Cup, Narang Cup and Shafi Cup. Earlier, President JKBA, Sudarshan Singh Wazir welcomed chief guest on the occasion and expressed gratitude for all teams for participation. Others present on the occasion included NR Gupta, Dr OD Sharma, Fayaz Ahmad, Balbir Jamwal, Lt Col DV Sharma, Ravi Singh and Satpal Sharma. |
