| 25 000 to 26 0000 casual labourers engaged in departments : Sham | | | Mustansir Srinagar, Oct7; there are 25000 to 26000 casual laboures working different departments particularly in PHE engaged from time to time but no body owns them as the ministers are in denial mode. This was stated by the Minister for PHE, irrigation and Flood control, Sham Lal Sharma on the floor of the house today while requisition raised by PDP MLA, Peerzada Mansur Husain. Shal Lal admitted that around 25 to 26 thousand casual laboures and need based workers have been engaged in various departments but those who have engaged them are consistently denying it that has put the future of these poor people at stake. He said the government was giving wages of a month or two to these poor workers either on the eve of Eid or Diwali every year. The minister said that the central government has put some riders on expansion and instead has ditrected to complete the under construction schemes in a time bound manner. Sharma said the central government has even assured us to bear the salasry component also of the under construction schemes provided the state government bears the maintenance charges. Sham said the department requires 15 persons on average to man the schemes particularly in the hilly terrain of Jammu region. The minister said though there was blanket ban on engagement of casual laboures still a large number of youth were engaged but those who have engaged them deny it again and again. |
