Akshay Azad Jammu, Oct 7: The number of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) receiving foreign funds across country has been declining in the past three years, but there is substantial evidence to believe that such organizations in Jammu and Kashmir have been beneficiaries of the large heartedness of the foreign donors. Sources informed Early Times that total number of NGOs registered for getting foreign funds across country has declined from 22993 in 2010-11 to 21804 in year 2011-12, but in Jammu and Kashmir the number has seen increase. "The total number of registered NGOs getting foreign funds in year 2009-10 was 81, while in 2010-11 the number increased to 93 and in year 2011-12 the number increased to 96", according to the recent report submitted by Home department said. It further added that the NGOs working in Jammu and Kashmir have been getting huge foreign funds. "In year 2009-10, 81 NGOs received Rs. 2617.88 Lakhs. At an average each NGO has got approximately Rs. 32.30 Lakhs annually. While in year 2010-11, 93 registered NGO's received Rs. 3856 Lakhs, on an average Rs. 41.46 Lakhs", sources said. They further said that in the last financial year 96 NGOs received Rs. 3095 Lakhs, at an average of Rs. 32.30 Lakhs annually. Sources further disclosed that Jammu and Kashmir is among the States with very less number of NGOs receiving foreign funds. "Tamil Nadu has highest number of 3337 registered NGO, while Jammu and Kashmir had only 81 NGOs in year 2009-10. Only north eastern States including Arunachal Pardesh with 12, Mizoram with 34, Tripura 33 and Sikkim with 8 NGOs are behind J&K", sources said. Similarly in year 2010-11, J&K had 93 NGOs, while Arunachal Pardesh 21, Tripura 24, Sikkim 10, Mirozam 30 were below J&K in number of NGO's receiving foreign funds, while in year 2011-12, JK had 96 NGOs while Nagaland 84, Goa 75, Arunahcal Pardesh 27, Tripura 27, Mizoram 31, Sikkim 14 NGOs. |
