| Techno savvy CM indifferent to e-governance break down | | Defunct tourism website misleading info on PDD's website | | Avinash Azad Jammu, Oct 7: The phrase "Just below the lantern lies the darkness" seems apt for techno savvy Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who has been insensitive about hyped e-governance of the Government departments headed by him and his colleagues, as the website of Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department shows wrong information, while Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department's website is defunct for the last many months. Jammu Kashmir Tourism (JKT) the only agency engaged for the promotion of tourism in State is fooling the tourist who prefers to visit official website www.jktourism.org which is out of order for a long time. Current status of website shows that the site would take five hours to recover from snag, but same is appearing for last four months with a picture showing 'under construction', whenever one tries to surf through it", said internet user, adding that only agency which was holding the responsibility of promotion of tourism has turned callous over the issues. He further said when he contacted at toll free number appearing on site 1-1800-103-1060, no one gave satisfactory answer. Interestingly, most of the Government departments have gone offline when it comes to maintenance of websites carrying the vital information about the Government functioning. Official website of Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department www.jkpdd.gov.in is providing wrong information on it. The websites were launched about seven years back as part of the e-governance project to provide online data about various Government departments and the different development schemes launched in the State. It was to act as the data bank for the people proving information about the Government's functioning. "While our tech- savvy Chief Minister has created waves on twitter replying the queries of his followers and presenting his view point on various issues. The Government websites are totally shut, and no effort was being made to revive them", said a senior official preferring anonymity. As soon as one goes to this page, graphic page with words "under construction" appears. It's not about this website only but most of the sites created by the Government are either not updated or are non-functional", the official said. "It shows that crores of rupees spent on using the internet connectivity and e-governance in the State for streamlining the administrative functioning was just wastage of State exchequer and has not served the real purpose for which these were created", he added. Important to note here is that 10 years back the State Government had taken a major initiative to implement E-Governance in all the departments, Public Sector Undertakings (PSU)s and other organizations under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme. |
