| Keran encounter exposes Omar's strategic understanding of Kashmir situation | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 7: The 14-day long encounter, which is still continuing, in Keran sector in Valley, has exposed the theory of Chief Minister that withdrawal of US led NATO troops from Afghanistan will not have any effect on the security situation in Kashmir. According to reports, about 40 terrorists, who are trained in warfare, are still holed up in the area. "These are not normal terrorists. They are highly trained and the possibility of them having carried out terrorist activities in Afghanistan along with Talibanis in their fight against US can't be ruled out," said a senior army official wishing not to be named. The possibility of terrorists having fought along with Talibanis in Afghanistan vindicates the stand of Army that situation in the J&K can turn violent once the process of US withdrawal from there starts. It was one of the reasons that Army had put up stiff resistance against the proposal of Omar Abdullah even for partial lifting of Armed Forces Special Powers Act. Omar Abdullah had at many a times stated that he doesn't share the concern of Army that US withdrawal could have any effect on it. He had said even publicly but now the ongoing encounter in Keran has exposed the flaws in Omar's understanding of things. Army had privately told the Omar a number of times that situation in the State, which may seem a bit peaceful as of now, can't be taken for guaranteed and has cited enough intelligence reports about the development in neighbourhood. But the Chief Minister for some brownie political points continued to speak for the AFSPA repealing. Army sources say that twin- terror attack in Jammu followed by huge influx of terrorists in Keran, with their supply line in place with the help of Pak army, points out that Pak army is now pushing in terrorists which were till now fighting in Afghanistan. These terrorists have been trained by ISI and indoctrinated by Talibani school of though, with close association with Al-Qaeda, which rates Indian along with the US and Israel as most enemy States. Kashmir is strategically important in the sinister of game of both ISI and Taliban which is being resisted and foiled by Army but with little assistance from the political head of the State whose safety they are ensuring. |
