Minority's human rights being ruthlessly violated

Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 7: NC working president and CM Omar Abdullah, who always talks about the alleged "civilian" killings (read killings of militants and their supporters) in Kashmir and orders probes from time to time to makes common cause with his communal core constituency in Kashmir, has two yardsticks.
One appears to be for those who indulge in anti-national activities, attack the institutions of the State, including the Amy, paramilitary forces, Army, CRPF, BSF camps and stations and create a serious law and order problem. He expresses all words of sympathy for those who get killed in counter-insurgency operations, order probes and promise action against the Army and others charged with the responsibility of protecting the borders, eliminating terrorists and Pakistani agents and take steps to compassionate them using the public money. In other words, he takes little or no time in acting against those who discharge the assigned duties.
The other yardstick obviously is for the poor, hapless and minorities inhabiting the militant and terrorist-infested hilly and mountainous areas of Jammu province. He never utters a word of sympathy for the victims of State terror. He, for example, has not till date said a word of sympathy for poor Ajay Kumar, who was mercilessly beaten up and tortured by members of the Special Investigating Team (SIT) within the premises of Kishtwar Police station for almost a week reportedly to make him work as per the police instructions, admit that he was one of the persons responsible for the August 9 Kishtwar violence or name certain persons so that they are booked and the anti-national and communal elements who actually resorted to violence on an unprecedented scale to wreck havoc on the minority community and cause its exodus from Kishtwar are left untouched.
Ajay Kumar was shifted from Kishtwar to Jammu Medical College and Hospital last week in a critical condition for immediate medical treatment. His shattered father, mother and sister and other relations, who have been attending to Ajay Kumar in the Jammu Medical College and Hospital ever since then, have been moving from pillar to post to obtain justice and seek the Authorities' intervention so that the guilt police personnel are booked and brought to justice. They have held a press conference and a number of reports have interviewed them during the past five days to know what exactly happened and know their woeful tale, but with no result. Neither the Chief Minister nor any of his colleagues in his Council of Ministers has spoken a word against those who unleashed State terror on Ajay Kumar, who is alive because the God saved him. Even the Saturday intervention of the BJP and the Panthers Party in the Legislative Assembly and their protests against the Kishtwar police/members of SIT team failed to move the Chief Minister and his Government. It is no wonder that the minorities in the State, who constitute almost 40 per cent of the State's population, have lost their faith in the system and longing for a situation that helps them get a Government of their choice.
