| Two Units of Uri-II declared under commercial Operation | | | Et Report JAMMU, Oct 11: NHPC Limited, India's premier Hydro Power Company has commissioned 2 Units (Unit 1 & III) of its 240MW (60MWx4) Uri-II HE Project in Jammu and Kashmir State. Unit No.1 and III of the project having capacity of 60MW each have been put on commercial operation from midnight of 11th October 2013.This was stated by S.Kalgaonkar, Executive Director, NHPC Limited, Region Jammu. He further said that remaining two units are likely to be commissioned very shortly. Uri-II HE Project is one of the 7 projects in the State of J&K undertaken by Govt. of India under Prime Minister Reconstruction Plan and assumes significant importance for economic development of J&K State and Nation as a whole. The Project is located in Uri Tehsil of Baramulla District. The Project has been constructed downstream of Uri-I and will pick up its tail water to make use of the gross head of about 130m available in the course of the river between Uri-I tailrace outlet and a place located about 1.25 km downstream of the confluence of Goalta Nallah and Jhelum River, close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The Project is estimated to generate 1123.76 MU of energy in a 90% dependable year. A share of 12% of the generated energy will be given to State Government of J&K as free power. This project is a fine example of attaining a massive engineering feat while facing challenging weather,geological,and other hostile conditions. Uri-II Project has been completed through sheer hard work and dedication of NHPC employees besides active support from Ministry of Power and Corporate Office. The project also received full co-operation of local administration, the local people and Government of Jammu & Kashmir, said S.Kalgaonkar. |
