Respect for Guru, Rahul-style
Sangrur Congress rally
10/11/2013 11:22:45 PM
Rustam
Jammu, Oct 11: AICC vice-president, Sonia Gandhi's son and the Congress's undeclared Prime Ministerial candidate Rahul Gandhi on October 10 addressed a rally at Ghabdan Kothi in Sangrur district of Punjab. A number of senior Congress leaders, including Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tiwari, were also present on the occasion.
It was too well known that Rahul Gandhi would attack the BJP, the Punjab Government and other political parties, including the unscrupulous and opportunist Samajwadi Party, which has been extending outside support to the UPA Government, and it happened. However, what was new in his address was his revelation that his mother Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are his "political Gurus". Hitherto the general impression was that his political Guru was former MP Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, who is known for his pro-terrorist views and commitment to vote-bank politics.
Rahul Gandhi, in fact, surprised many, including media persons, when he lavished praise on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, asserted that India was in "good hands" and revealed that he has "two gurus in politics -- the Congress president (Sonia Gandhi) and Manmohan Singh". "Punjab has given him one of these gurus," he also said much to the surprise of the people and media persons.
Rahul Gandhi actually ridiculed himself when he hailed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as one of his political Gurus. The reason: Only on September 27, Rahul had abused and degraded the office of the Prime Minister and contemptuously dismissed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Cabinet colleagues and given the country to understand that whatever they did was nothing but a "complete non-sense".
Making a surprise brief appearance at a meet-the-press programme of his party's general secretary Ajay Maken at the Press Club of Delhi, he had said the Ordinance on convicted lawmakers should be torn up and thrown away. "Now, I will tell you what is my opinion on the Ordinance. It is complete non-sense. It should be torn up and thrown away. It is my personnel opinion". The Prime Minister's Cabinet had adopted the-protect- convicted-lawmakers Ordinance and sent it to the President of India for his assent and promulgation. Rahul Gandhi condemned Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Cabinet when the Prime Minister was away at United States to participate in the UN General Assembly and meet with US President Barack Obama and Pakistan Premier Nawaz Sharif.
The fact of the matter is that he publicly humiliated the Prime Minister and his Cabinet. This is the respect Rahul Gandhi has for one of his political Gurus, the Prime Minister. It is a different story that the Prime Minister cheerfully swallowed all the humiliations, taunts and insults and yielded. On October 2, the Union Cabinet decided to withdraw the Ordinance.
