JAMMU, Oct 11: Police today foiled BJP's Rajouri march by arresting over 200 Party activists and senior leaders while on their way to border town. To scuttle the BJP move a big contingent of Police was deployed in front of Party Headquarters at Kacchi Chawni from early in the morning where over 200 strong party men and senior leaders had assembled to take a march towards border town. As the Party activists came out of the office and reached the Kacchi Chawni Chowk , the police created barricades to foil their move. This resulted into a minor scuffle between the irate Partymen and police. The Police also used mild cane charge to disperse the gathering. The irate BJP activists raising slogans against the administration and Government blamed them for Rajouri episode and alleged that administration and police was playing a partisan role and harassing the innocent workers of BJP and BJYM. However some senior Party leaders ,managed to give police a slip and reach Sunderbani, Akhnoor, Damana, Muthi and Paloura in different vehicles. But they were also arrested. BJP State president Jugal Kishore Sharma who managed to reach Sunderbani was arrested there along with Sham Choudhary MLA and Engineer Khatana. The BJP Legislative Party leader, Ashok Khajuria and MLA Marh Ch Sukhnandan, Party's Akhnoor district general secretary Omi Khajuria and Mukesh Sharma were arrested at Damana while Chander Parkash Ganga, Kavinder Gupta, Karan Singh and other senior leaders were arrested at Paloura. As per reports over 100 Party activists led by Chman Lal Kanathia who tried to take out a march from Akhnoor were arrested there and taken to local police station. Over 100 Party activists were arrested at Nowsh who were on their way to Rajouri. All the arrested leaders and activists were released later in the evening. According to sources the Government had issued instructions to all SSPs of concerned districts to use extra force to foil the BJP march so that the peace is not disturbed in the region. Following the Government directives the concerned SSPs flashed messages to all SHOs in their districts to maintain alert and ensure that no BJP activist or leader manages to reach Rajouri. It may be recalled the BJP yesterday gave call for Rajouri march to express solidarity with the minorities there and also protest against the arrest of its innocent activists while leaving those scot free who were actually responsible for Rajouri clashes and insulting the Bhagwa Dhawaj and thrashing some RSS activists there. The BJP leader were demanding withdrawal of cases against all the three Party activists and arrest of those elements who fomented trouble and were hell bent in creating disturbances in Rajouri. They warned to take out a march to Rajouri today and intensify agitation in case the administration will not act in an impartial manner. Sources said following the BJP threat the Police on the instructions of higher ups had released one among the three arrested youth late last night and BJP was expecting that other two activists will also be released by this evening. |
