| Police foils militant attack in Pulwama | | | Javaid Naikoo Srinagar, Oct 11: Panic gripped south Kashmir's Quil area of Pulwama district today after police guarding a minority community resorted to aerial firing to foil the suspected attack of militants on the police picket in the area. According to the police spokesperson unknown militants today attempted to attack a Police guard deployed for protection of minority community at village Quil in District Pulwama. However the alert police on duty after noticing some suspicious movement fired after which militants left the spot. The details received in this regard reveal that militants managed to escape from the spot after police personals watched their movement near the police picket however in a hurry they left behind a rifle on the spot. Police sources revealed that around four militants appeared in a suspicious condition near the picket at Quil Pulwama area to attack on the said picket guarding the minority community of the area, however before the militants could attack the post, policemen on duty fired upon them who in a hurry without attacking them fled from the spot in hurry and left behind a riffle. According to the Police spokesperson a search operation in the area has been launched and case has been registered in this regard and investigation has been taken up already. Pertinently militants in south Kashmir on many occasions over the years have succeeded to snatch weapons of the police personals who were either guarding the minority communities or where on duty in the markets which as per the sources is the new strategy of militants to mange weapons for the new recruits of the area and such a strategy has worked for the so far over the years. Besides militants succeeded to snatch the weapons of police personals guarding the minority communities twice in south Kashmir's Shopian district over the years, militants also snatched the weapon of personal security office of MLA Pulwama in the month of July and also weapons were found missing from the house of former MLA of Shopian in Kachdora in the same month as well. |
