Jammu, Oct 11: "Prayas" today greeted all on "International Day of Girl Child" which is been observed worldwide after united nation has declared it 2 years ago.
Rajesh Sharma chairman Prayas, said that this day has coincidently coincided with "Holy Navratras" which is in celebration with whole female community. It is part of our rich culture and heritage that girls are worshiped as "kanjaks" and treated like goddesses.
He further said that our society should work for imbibing real values and respect of women should be maintained at all levels.
He further said that "Prayas" is working for saving the girl child from beginning of this year and will double its efforts in days to come. Vikrant Dogra, president Prayas, said that united nations believe that the fulfilment of girls' right to education is first and foremost obligation and moral responsibility. He further added that this year theme would be "Innovating For Girls' Education". While there has been significant progress in improving girls' access to education over the last two decades, many girls, particularly the most marginalized, continue to be deprived of this basic right.
Girls in many countries are still unable to attend school and complete their education due to safety-related, financial, institutional and cultural barriers.
Even when girls are in school, perceived low returns from poor quality of education, low aspirations, or household chores and other responsibilities keep them from attending school or from achieving adequate learning outcomes.
The transformative potential for girls and societies promised through girls' education is yet to be realized.
He further said that for combating female foeticide all sections of society need to work together. He added that if basic respect, dignity and empowerment of women are maintained, we would surely see that cases of female foeticide will decrease drastically. He appealed to all social and religious groups to come forward and preach respect for women which is already imbibed as basic religious and social values. He further said that decreasing sex ratio is biggest challenge and cannot fight without will of all sections of society.
