| Bhagthali villagers stage protest against 'dilapidated road' | | | Rakesh Sambyal Kathua, Oct 19: Miffed over pathetic condition of Bhagthali link road, a large number of villagers staged a protest demonstration against the government here on Saturday. Shouting slogans against the administration, the villagers demanded maintenance of the dilapidated road. Expressing grave concern over the poor condition of the road, the protesters Trido Ram Mehra, Deewan Chand and Akshay Kumar, said that their village is situated at a distance of five kilometers from Kathua and more than two hundred families reside there. After repeated requests by the villagers, the authorities constructed two kilometers of road while the remaining portion left as it is. The present situation is that due to dumping of stones on the road side, hardly a single vehicle can pass through due to which many a times accidents occur. "The major problem is that no passenger vehicle comes to this side due to which the children find it hard to reach Kathua. If someone falls sick, it becomes a challenge for them to take the person upto hospital. Moreover, only three wheelers ply on this road but instead of actual fare the driver demands four times extra fare," the protesters said. As the people totally depend on agriculture and labour, they cannot afford the fare and had to go by foot," protestors added. Alleging the local administration for turning a deaf ear towards their problem, protestors said that time and again, the people have protested and also apprised the local administration about the problem, but all in vain. The protesters urged district administration to repair the road. They also warned the administration if their demands are not considered seriously they will be compelled to block the highway, for which the administration will solely be responsible. |
