| Search operation continues on 8th day in Lolab Forests | | Army's Patrol attacked in Handwara, trooper injured | | Javid A Malla
Kupwara, Oct 19: The Lolab search operation continued for the eighth consecutive day today. While as a trooper sustained injuries in a militant attack today. Sources said, no fresh contact was developed between security forces and militants today. They said, Security forces were fired upon by a group of militants at Dursu area of Lolab forests in the wee hours on Friday. However, the militant managed to flee under the cover of darkness. While as combing operation was further tightened to trace out the militants. "Operation has entered its eighth day today and more troops of 21 Rashtriya Riffles were put into job after army got foot prints of more militants whom they have encircled in the dense forest are", sources said. Earlier army claimed to have killed a militant, Atiqur Rehman alias Khan Baba, in an encounter at Anderbough, Devar in Kupwara forests and recovered an AK-47 rifle from the encounter site. On October 12, 18 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and 28 RR of Army and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a massive operation on in Devar, Lolab, Tekipora forest area in this frontier district after they received information about the presence of a large group of militants comprising of Jaish-e-Mohammad, Lashkar-e-Toiba and Al-Badar in the forests. These militants are believed to have infiltrated to these forests this summer through Machil sector and have been cited recently. Sources said that the continuous combing operation was later joined by 47 RR, 31 RR and 9 Para Commandos joined them to tighten noose against the militants. Meanwhile an army trooper was injured in Handwara area after militants opened fire on Road opening party of army's 30 Rashtriya Riffles early morning on Saturday. Sources said, Nagray Rahul Binrao was injured after militants fired upon road opening party of army's 30 Rashtriya Rifles in Hangah area of Kupwara tehsil. The injured trooper was immediately rushed to hospital. Soon after the attack, army's 21 Rashtriya Riffles and police's Special Operation Group (SOG) along with 30 RR cordoned the area and started searches to nab the militants. However there was no official confirmation about the identity of the injured trooper. |
