What 11 MLAs of BJP have done for their constituencies?
10/19/2013 11:58:39 PM

Part 2

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 19: The people of Jammu have been deceived and let down, not by outsiders but by their own people for whom they voted in 2008 Assembly elections and gave them a thumping win.
The people of Jammu whole heartedly voted for Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) during 2008 Assembly elections and this national party managed to get 11 seats, which was its highest tally even in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. From one seat in 2002 to 11 seats in 2008 was a big morale booster for BJP as well as people of Jammu who knew their power of vote.
But within months of, BJP members of legislative Assembly down people of Jammu and got involved in petty interests. Seven out of 11 MLAs were thrown out from party for voting against the whip in MLC elections allegedly for money. Other four MLAs did nothing for people, who voted for them.
It is fact that with 16 MLAs in 2002, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) managed to form the government in the state with the help of Congress party and if BJP MLAs would have prepared a strategy, they could have taken Omar government to ransom for cause of people of Jammu.
But for past five years, it has been observed that these BJP MLAs never spoke for their own people in legislative Assembly and for them attending the budget session or monsoon session was just a formality to earn the allowances.
The 11 BJP MLAs represent constituencies of Jammu, Kathua and Reasi districts, which include Jammu East, Jammu West, Nagrota, Marh, R S Pura, Suchetgarh, Raipur Domana, Bani, Basholi, Hiranagar and Reasi and one can easily observe that no major developmental work has started in these constituencies.
Rather these constituencies have remained most under developed areas for past five years. The onus didn't lie on the government but on these MLAs, who represent people of these areas.
As the state is slowly heading towards 2014 Assembly elections, these 11 MLAs will have to first present their report card in front of people and then seek mandate for the future. But going by the facts and figures, these MLAs have nothing to offer.
