| Govt urged to restore land, confidence of minorities | | SDS land grabbed by mafia | | Et Report
JAMMU, Oct 19: Notwithstanding the claims of State Government the unabated encroachment of shrine and temple land in Kashmir Valley continues.
According to sources eight kanals of land belonging to Sanatan Dharam Sabha (SDS) at Tulsi Bagh Srinagar where the Sabha has 16 kanals of land along with a temple. The land has been encroached by a local land mafia group who had broken its wall and constructed a new wall around it besides removing the SDS Board the land mafia has installed a private land Board over it. Sources said there is a nexus between revenue officials and land mafia and the land mafia has encroached the temple land in connivance with revenue officials. The State administration is totally sleeping over the issue though the matter was brought in its notice by the SDS on the same day. Sources said the members of minority community who were looking after the temple and the land were thrashed by land mafia group. The action has scared the minorities in the area and they have totally lost their confidence in the Government, sources added.
The SDS leadership has taken the serious exception of the matter and they have taken up the issue with State Government sought its immediate intervention to restore the land of the Sabha and temple.
Talking to reporters here today SDS, Srinagar Kashmir general secretary Sompal Aggarwal said that one Nassirullah Khan son of Mohammed Sadiq of Hamdania Colony Shanpura Srinagar during the night of October 12 and 13 grabbed 8 kanals of SDS land at Tulsi Bagh by trashing the office bearers of the Sabha manning the temple and land there.
He said Khan who entered the temple premises along with 70 goons equipped with iron roads and sticks forcefully covered the land by dismantling the wall and demarcating it with iron rods and sheets. These goons also threatened the Sabha members, he added.
He said though FIR was registered in PS Sher Gadi Srinagar and despite the matter being brought in the notice of IG Kashmir, DC Srinagar and SP Srinagar but no action was taken by the Government till date against the culprits. He demanded immediate arrest of culprits and restoration of confidence of the minorities. He said this land was also encroached over four years back but SDS protested at that time also and restored the land. |
