| Omar unlikely to oblige Kamaal | | NC-Cong coalition | | Rustam
JAMMU, Oct 19: On Friday, when the Kashmiri separatists make many anti-India statement, NC working president and J&K CM's Omar Abdullah's uncle and party's additional general secretary Mustafa Kamaal, declared that the NC-Congress coalition is on the verge of collapse, as the NC was no longer prepared to tolerate the Congress party.
"The Congress is going to 'ditch' NC anytime. The Congress facilitated killing of thousands of NC workers across Kashmir, including some of its senior functionaries. They (Congress) failed to dislodge us with the gun. We came back with 2/3rd majority in 1996, and when they broke on all fronts, Congress is now resorting to other tactics to dismember NC…The Congress wants to capture power in J&K by 'hook or crook'.
The speech of the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee from Delhi's Red Fort before 2002 assembly elections in the state is indicative of how serious Delhi was in uprooting NC. He (Vajpayee) declared that free and fair elections are going to be conducted in J&K…, why didn't he mention any other state at that time?... "Many people in our party have learnt a lesson, who perhaps were under this impression that Congress cannot ditch us. Now the truth has dawned on us," said Kamaal during an interview to the Kashmir-based news gathering agency.
However, the most significant part of his statement was his declaration that the NC will snap its ties with the Congress sooner than later, as it has become extremely impossible to work with the Congress party. Mustafa Kamaal is living in a fool's paradise. It's really strange that he doesn't know his brother and party president Farooq Abdullah and his nephew Omar Abdullah and the nature of the politics they have all along indulged in to remain in power. Or, should it be construed that Mustafa Kamaal is just naïve or a greenhorn in politics who has still to cover many miles to learn the art of politics?
Neither Farooq Abdullah nor Omar Abdullah is going to oblige Mustafa Kamaal because they cannot live without power even for a moment. Power for them is an elixir to life. Power is oxygen and Mustafa Kamaal is a doctor by profession. He knows the importance of oxygen. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah are not just very close to the 10 Janpath, the official residence of Sonia Gandhi, but they are very close to 12 Tuglak Lane, the official residence of Rahul Gandhi. In fact, the two Abdullahs and Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, besides Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who can go to any extent to keep Rahul Gandhi in good humour to save his chair, have been working in tandem for years now and it is difficult to say that the Abdullahs would snap their ties with the Congress before the results of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections are announced in May 2014. Yes, they can distance themselves from the Congress and turn towards a formation that would form the next government at the centre. The NC is known for changing sides. Hence, Mustafa Kamaal has to wait till the last week of May to see which way his brother and nephew go. |
