| JK Kissan Council hails Government decision to increase rates of milk | | | Jammu, Oct 19: On behalf of JK Kissan Council and large milk producing fraternity of J&K , Vikrant Dogra (General secretary, JKKC) said that their long pending demand has been met by the government and this very decision will prove as landmark in dairy industry of state as this decision has been taken after properly considering costing of milk by rate fixation committee. He further said that new rates of milk will help milk producers to maintain quality and availability of milk in coming festival season as well. He further said that judicious rate of milk will lay firm foundation on which dairy industry in state will again flourish, as many farmers had left dairy due to poor sale price of milk. He further said that according to National dairy Dev. Board (NDDB) survey "Milk industry" is single largest self-employment exercise in entire country and since now rates of milk are fair we will see positive effect in this sector in J&K as well. Vikrant Dogra said that with rates of milk now streamed lined government should now focus on improving infrastructure in dairy sector. He further said government should now push banks to come forward in establishment of new dairy units in our state; it will not only improve quality and availability of milk but also help fighting unemployment. If we consider growth in dairy sector with other states our J&K is far behind. He added that the Government should now consider formation of separate "Milk Commission" or "Directorate" for dairy sector for growth of dairy industry and allied sector.
