| CSI students organize ESDM workshop | | | early times report Jammu, Oct 19: Student chapter of Computer Society of India (CSI) at the Model Institute of Engineering & Technology (MIET) organized a two-day workshop on Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) in collaboration with Computer Society of India. The workshop was intended to create awareness about the electronics and IT industry, with focus on R&D and entrepreneurship. The Computer Society of India has 70 chapters all over India, 418 student branches, and more than 90000 members making it one of the largest professional associations in India. MIET is the only institution in J&K to have a CSI Student Branch providing exposure to students on latest trends in technology. Babar Afzal, Social Entrepreneur and Chairman Kashmir Ink was the chief guest on the occasion, while Prof. Praveen Lehana, Associate Professor, Dept. of Physics and Electronics, University of Jammu was the guest of honour. S K Sharma, principal, MIET in his welcome address welcomed all the dignitaries and students who participated in the workshop. He apprised the audience on the importance of the electronics industry and provided projections for future growth. Dr. Praveen Lehena in his address gave a detailed overview of Bio-medical systems and the advances in the domain including using sound in innovative ways to solve complex biological problems. Ankur Gupta, Joint Director, MIET delivered a motivational talk on "Why I Climb?" focusing on the intrinsic human nature to survive against all odds and the indomitable spirit to take on new challenges. Babar Afzal chairman of Kashmir Ink (a young start up from J&K) spoke on personal leadership and entrepreneurship potential in the 21st century. Through effective story-telling, Babbar brought home the point that opportunities are waiting to be exploited and the youth of the State needs to have the right mindset and focus to achieve success. 80 students attended this workshop and later as a part of the workshop the students are scheduled to visit the Intex Industry at Bari Brahmna where the students shall be made aware of the manufacturing process by the company followed by an open session with the students The event was supported by the Electronics and Communication department Head Jamini Sharma. Kritika Arora from CSE was the compeer for the event. Assistant Prof. Salim Raza Qureshi Head CSE, MIET and student branch coordinator (SBC) of the student branch of CSI delivered the official vote of thanks. |
