Kathua, Dec 8: Illegal felling of trees continues unabated in the forest area of Kathua district with active nexus between forest officials and timber smugglers is resulting into shrinking of green cover.
Sources informed Early Time that the some officials of forest department in connivance of politically influenced people, number of trolleys loaded with fire-woods are smuggled even in broad day light to industries, brick kilns" sources said.
They alleged that this mal practice is taking place under the nose of Kathua administration and Forest department. They said the forest cover provide habitat to various species of wildlife but the intensive interference of timber smugglers have not only posed threat to the existence of flora and fauna but various varieties of trees due to which Kathua as well as adjoining areas are under threat of great devastation.
