Rajouri, Dec 8 : Revenue Department in reply to an RTI filed by an activist has revealed that the district tops the chart in case of illegal encroachment of government land. If the Revenue Department reply is to be believed, more than 49502acre of government land is under their illegal occupation including government buildings. In the latest development, Chief Education Officer (CEO) has lodged a complaint with SSP Rajouri and has alleged that some retired revenue officials had tempered the records of the land belonging to education department near old bus stand and has started construction work. On Saturday, a police party under the supervision of SSP visited the spot and stopped the construction work. About 40 kanals of land was acquired for the construction of Education Department complex by the then Chief Minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah in 1972 and offices of CEO, ZEO, Tehsil Education Officer, two middle schools each for girls and boys, sports complex were constructed. The rest of the land remained uncovered and was slowly encroached by the political leaders, social workers in nexus with revenue officials. "The matter of illegal construction was later on, taken up with the DIG police who instructed the SHO to stop the construction work till the demarcation of the land belong to Education Department was not completed" said Ch Lal Hussain CEO. Pertinently SK Mughal, Adhoc President of Anti Illegal Reservation Front (AIRF) and Shahbaz Khan, an RTI activist have alleged that according to recent information sought from the revenue department under RTI act , the government land acquired for the education complex in 1972 was about 40 kanals and at present the land under the occupation of the department is just 20 kanal. |
