12/8/2013 10:33:20 PM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 8 : Highlighting their demands a large number of members falling under Reserved Backward Area (RBA) category staged massive protest outside Press Club of Jammu against the state government and alleged that they have been deprived from their rights due to callous approach of state government towards them and demanded a separate board for RBA on the pattern of SC/ST/OBC Board. The rally was held under the leadership of Kewal Sharma Social Activist and Advocate Rajesh Thapa Former General Secretary Bar Association Jammu, who while addressing the protestors, said since independence the State rulers had been looting the due share of State RBA community. They alleged successive rulers in State have bothered only to other reserved categories while RBA category yet has not been given their due share be it social set up or be it the economic front and the education the factors for which a specific locality or area is considered as 'Backward.'
Speakers also made mention of injustice to fairer sex, pin pointing if a non RBA girl marries to a RBA person she has to wait for the category consideration for atleast 15 years for the benefits which are being given to RBA Category members.
Criticizing Govt. policies, speakers said that government at the other hand offers the other facilities like voter card etc. for its political vested interests but denies them (women folks) their social rights. 'Situation for women ( a non RBA) married to RBA was different before 2006 and but since 2006 vide Govt. Order GAD (Adm)18/2006-1 Dt: 27/2/2006 the RBA status to non RBA girl marrying to a RBA person was denied reasons best known to the officials/politicians at helms of affairs.
They also mentioned that even NC leader and MLC Dr Shenaz Ganai too had raised this issue why women are deprived from their social right during the proceedings of Upper House on April this year but the issue only has attracted lip sympathies and nothing else.
Demanding a separate board on the pattern of SC/ST /OBC Advisory Board, the protestors said that their issues are negated as there is no monitoring/governing body for the RBA Community speared across state.
The speakers also demanded their due share in every field viz political, educational and Government as well as private sector jobs. They warned the State rulers to grant their due share or be ready to face the music in the coming Parliamentary and Assembly elections. Other who participated in the protest is Retd. Tehsildar Avtar Krishen, Master Prithvi Singh, D. N. Sharma, Nek Ram (Retd Naib Tehsildar), Ms Neelam Gouria Naib Sarpanch Bar-naie, Panch Om Prakash and Panch Sham Lal.
