MIER celebrates 78th foundation day with great fanfare

Jammu, Dec 8: To commemorate journey of 78 glorious years dedicated service in the field of education, Model Institute of Education and Research (MIER) today celebrated its Foundation Day with great fanfare at its B C Road campus.
Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla attended the occasion as chief guest while other distinguished who marked their presence included Dr Arun K. Gupta, Chairman MIER, Dr Renu Gupta, Director MIER, Dr Adit Gupta and Dr Ankur Gupta, joint Directors MIER, Gen S.K. Sharma, Principal MIET, the members of the Board of Directors, prominent citizensand large number of parents of the students of various wings of the institute.
On his arrival, the Chief Guest was accorded a warm reception by the Chairman, Director and was presented a guard of honour by the NCC cadets, scouts and guides of the institute. Thereafter, the chief guest paid rich homage to the Founders of MIER and eminent educationists late Prof H L Gupta and Prof Shanti Gupta by laying floral wreaths at their portraits.
Chairman MIER and noted educationist Dr Arun K Gupta presented welcome address and expressed gratitude to the public and parents for giving full support to MIER for seventy eight years in the achievement of its noble educational objectives. He further thanked the government, university and Board authorities for reposing confidence in the programmes offered by the institute. Dr. Gupta also highlighted the achievements of the institute. He also said institute plans to introduce several professional programmes in higher education, especially in the fields of engineering, professional education, research and training to cater to the requirements of the learners of the state. In the end Dr Adit Gupta, Joint Director MIER presented vote of thanks to the chief guest and the august gathering.. Earlier a cultural programme was presented by the students of institute from both branches of Model Academy and MIER College of Education which started with an invocation to Goddess Saraswati, followed by Ganesh Stuti and then a bouquet of cultural programmes, The star attraction of the programme was a special performance by MasterAnmol Jaswal, a student of Model Academy and mega-finalist of the reputed television show, Indian Idol Junior which enthralled the audience. He was awarded a Gold Medal in recognition to his achievement. Four students of Class Xwho won merit positions in the board examinations were also honoured.



DADAA demands "DUGGAR CHANNEL"

Jammu, Dec 8: Doordarshan Approved Drama Artists Association (DADAA) Jammu has demanded a separate and independent "DUGGAR CHANNEL" on the pattern of DD Kashir channel and enhancement of budget for DDK Jammu at par with other Kendras without further delay.
In this regard a delegation of DADAA met with Minister for Information and Broadcasting Munish Tiwari in his office chamber at Shastri Bhawan New Delhi under the guidance of senior congress leader and former minister Gulchain Singh Charak and submitted its charter of demand. The minister paid patient hearing and ensured the delegation of DADAA for better results.
Some association and organizations of writers, producers, directors, technicians, musicians and senior citizens came forward and hailed the efforts of DADAA in demanding "DUGGAR CHANNEL"and agreed that the same is in the nations interest and assure their full support.

Minimum temperatures above freezing point in Kashmir Valley

Jammu, Dec 8: In further respite from cold wave for the residents of Kashmir owing to overcast conditions, the minimum temperatures in most parts of the Valley settled above the freezing point.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, settled at 2.3 degrees Celsius, over a degree up from the previous night's 0.9 degree Celsius, a MeT Department official said.
The night temperature in the tourist resort of Pahalgam also appreciated from the previous night's low of minus 0.8 degree Celsius to settle at a low of 0.7 degree Celsius, the official said. The mercury in the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg settled at a low of minus 0.4 degree Celsius against 0.3 degree Celsius the previous night, she said.
Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a low of 2.8 degrees Celsius against the previous night's 1.4 degrees Celsius, while Kupwara town in north recorded a minimum of minus 1.3 degrees Celsius against previous night's minus 1.7 degrees Celsius, she said. The official said Qazigiund - the gateway town to Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 0.4 degree Celsius, against the previous night's minus 0.3 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature in Leh town of frontier region of Ladakh settled at minus 8.5 degrees Celsius, same as the previous night's, the official said. Leh continues to remain the coldest recorded place in the state, she said.
The nearby Kargil town recorded a low of minus 3.8 degrees Celsius as against the previous night's minus 5.5 degrees Celsius, she said. The MeT Department has said the weather would remain mainly dry and there would be fall in night temperatures.
Kashmir Valley has been going through a spell of dry weather over the past month and a little before that, although the winter set in early this season, with the high altitude areas, including Gulmarg, recording the first snowfall at the fag end of October.


Bansal conducts 'Opportunity and Scholarship' Test

Jammu, Dec 8: Bansal Classes Pvt Ltd., Jammu Center today conducted Bansal Open Opportunity and Scholarship Test at its center at Gupta Tower, Bahu Plaza, Jammu in which students responded overwhelmingly.

GCCES holds inventory Comprehensive Interest Schedule (CIS) test

Jammu, Dec 8: Global Competition Counselling and Educational Society (GCCES) organised a scientific test by using Inventory Comprehensive Interest Schedule (CIS) here today with an aim to find out interest of children by using scientific procedures so that students may not suffer in education and lead to better performance in education and also in their career selection.
As per spokesperson with host organization, the said initiative under the guidance of Prof M.L.Koul Educationist Ramesh Kumar, Moral Education expert Dr Ashok Sharma, Subash Chander Joginder Khajuria and others Shanti Saroop Sharma was held at Shiv Shiksha Kendra Hr Sec School Gho Brahmana .
Students in the age group of 14 to 24 years from Shiv Shiksha Kendra Hr Sec School, Alpha Mission School Gho rakhwalan and Ajanta Hr Sec School Gho Brahmana participated in this test.
Comprehensive Interest Schedule a psychological test is highly helpful to the children in their career selection, spokesperson added.
School Managing Committee head Raj Kumar Sharma and Kushal Sharma thanked to the organization for the conduction of the (CIS) test in the school for the betterment of the children.




Apple Kids International celebrates picnic at 17 miles

Jammu, Dec 8: Apple Kids international Pre-school Sunday organised a picnic at 17 miles. The press statement said that students were full of excitement and joy. Children enjoyed various games rides, 5d movie, Dj dance and other colourful activities.

No 'wave' but Modi effect obvious on BJP cadre, suggests Omar

Srinagar, Dec 8: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today appeared to suggest that Narendra Modi has galvanised the BJP cadre though there was no guarantee that big meetings will translate into votes.
In a series of tweets, he took note of Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) spectacular debut, saying, "...Never underestimate the underdog or newcomer with a fresh face and message."
Deriving lessons from the just concluded assembly polls in five states, Omar shared his observations on the micro-blogging site "Twitter" and said, "Note to self 2014 - there is no 'wave' but the effect on their cadre is obvious. Can't afford to underestimate this going ahead."
This tweet was in reference to BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and BJP without naming them. Jammu and Kashmir is scheduled for polls by end of 2014.
Stating that he was glued to TV and curiously watching the election results, he tweeted, "And perhaps last lesson for today - 2014 a divisive message won't work but you can't fight an election with a Gandhian campaign either." Without mentioning UPA, he said last minute announcement of schemes also did not convert into votes. "Notes to self for 2014 - voters will see through crude attempts to buy support with last minute populist schemes".
Speaking about the political rallies, he said "...Big public meetings don't always mean votes but poorly attended ones definitely indicate big trouble."
The Chief Minister also hit out at the post-poll surveys for their wrong predictions and said "which was the post poll survey that gave AAP six seats? You need to sack your pollsters, they clearly stayed at home to fill questionnaires.


EP tenants hold meeting, discuss demands

Jammu, Dec 8: A meeting of the Executive members of Evacuee Property Tenants Welfare Society (EPTWS), Jammu province (Regd) was held on 7th December, 2013 here in Jammu, in which various problems of tenants were discussed.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Jyoti Vaid, President of the Society. According to Jyoti Vaid, main problems of tenants highlighted in the meeting included transfer of tenancy allotment to the blood related occupants and enhancement of rent in such cases @ 10%. The meeting also stressed upon the members for unity of the Society and collective working for the betterment of gullible tenants.
Prominent among others, who attended the meeting included Mohd Sharief, General Secretary, Rattan Sawhney, Suraj Sharma, Nazir Ahmed, Romesh Chander Soodan, Jamshed Akhter, Gopal Sharma and Sunny Chibber.

SRS congratulates AAP on its stunning victory

JAMMU, Dec 8: Expressing happiness over the stunning victory of Aam Admi Party (AAP), State President Shri Ram Sena (SRS) Rajiv Mahajan said that Arvind Kejriwal might become the next Chief Minister of the national capital. "I am very happy for AAP as the party has emerged victorious in such situation and got 24 seats," Rajiv said. Mahajan said that the newly formed party should contest election in other states as well.
Mahajan, said that Kejriwal should not take any support, rather go for another election if need be but no "khichdi"
While criticizing the Congress party, which has finished at a poor third in the Assembly polls, he said that that its intentions are not clear. Mahajan said that the Congress needs to mend its ways or else the people will teach it a lesson in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
As the BJP is set for victory in Delhi, it has to share the spotlight with the newcomer Aam Aadmi Party for the performance that stunned everybody.
