Jat community holds protest to seek OBC status

Jammu, Jan 18: Jats community today held a protest demonstration at Tehsil Headquarter Hiranagar under the leadership of Ch. Kamal Singh, President, Jat Kalyan Sabha demanding OBC status. Ch. Kamal Singh while speaking on the occasion said that Jats have a sizeable population of more than 5 lakhs in the state but have lacked behind socially and educationally due to frequent migration during Indo-Pak wars of 1947,1965,1971 and 1999 conflict as they have been settled along Indo-Pak border of Samba, Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch and Baramulla districts where educational facilities are mere for Suchetgarh, RS Pura, Vijaypur, Bishnah, Nowshera, Hiranagar, Marh, Samba, Mendhar and Jammu cantonment and have a sizeable population in Akhnoor, Khour, Rajouri, Raipur, Domana, Kathua and Billawar and can decide the fate of contesting candidates over there. He warned the political parties in general and Congress and National Conference in particular to desist from delaying tactics and misleading the community as they will not tolerate such type of disparity with the community.
