| Hurriyat Conference (M) as radical as Hurriyat Conference (G) | | Correcting contradiction | | Neha JAMMU, Jan 18: The so-called All-Party Hurriyat Conference (Mirwaiz) is becoming unpopular and irrelevant in Kashmir with each passing day. Bulk of Kashmiri Muslims does not trust its self-styled chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who has been trading Kashmir to grind his own axe and make worldly gains. Even some of those who are part of this separatist and sectarian outfit do not believe Mirwaiz. They dismiss him as dictator, unreasonable, arrogant and selfish. That they do not trust him could be seen from what happened in his crumbling camp on Friday. On Friday, the rebel APHC-M group led by another separatist leader and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party head Shabir Shah formally severed its ties with Mirwaiz and named their group as Hurriyat Conference Jammu and Kashmir. Not just this, others who declared their separation from APHC (M) included National Front leader Nayeem Khan, Azam Inquilabi of Mahaz-e-Azadi and Mohammad Yousuf Naqash of Islamic political Party. This was the second major vertical split in the APHC (M) and it came after about a decade. The first major split took place in 2003, when Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani left it and formed his own Tehrik-e-Hurriyat, also called Hurriyat (G) or Geelani Hurriyat. There are reasons to believe that many other constituents of the conglomerate led by Mirwaiz would desert him sooner than later, as their leaders have no say in the APHC (M) affairs and as they believe that Mirwaiz is not accommodating and that he behaves likes a dictator. It is good that Mirwaiz who has caused enough damage to the people of Kashmir by playing with religious sentiments of the people to promote his own personal agenda has been losing his position and becoming irrelevant by the day. One can only hope that the authorities in the state would initiate action against him and others of his ilk for their anti-India, subversive and pro-Pakistan activities. Any way, it is important to note that those who call APHC (M) moderate and Geelani Hurriyat radical have only been misleading the people. APHC (M) is not moderate. It is as radical, communal and anti-India as Geelani Hurriyat. There is no fundamental difference between the two, as both the separatist outfits stand for the state's separation from India, maintain very close relations with Islamabad and advocate ideologies which are identical. Infact, those who term Mirwaiz Hurriyat as secular and Geelani Hurriyat as pro-Pakistan only mislead New Delhi and it constitutes a glaring contradiction. The fact of the matter is that both are separatists and extremists and separatists are separatists and extremists are extremists. It would be better if commentators do not differentiate between the two and say that they operate from different platforms to mint easy money, remain in the news and fool the gullible people and preach sedition from places, religious or otherwise, knowing it fully well that none in New Delhi would ever dare to vouch for their separatist and regressive ideology. |
