| Mere statements on Article 370 not enough | | NC distorting facts | | Neha JAMMU, Jan 21: The clueless and pro-independence NC which, along with the Congress, has all along played foul games and divisive politics and denied the people of Jammu province and Ladakh region their legitimate political and economic rights to pander to a section of Kashmiri-speaking population in the Valley, on Monday made a desperate attempt to mislead the public opinion by suggesting that the BJP has taken a complete U-turn on Article 370. The NC described the BJP a "fascist" party and said that it "has been parroting abrogation of the Article 370 for the past six and half decades and has lost its credibility for being parochial, communal and divisive". It did not say that BJP president Rajnath Singh had - apart from saying that if Article 370 had benefited the state the party would not insist on its abrogation - had clearly said that the party considered it a "conspiracy". The word conspiracy should clear all the doubts and establish what the party's stand remains unchanged. The only difference being a new approach to the debate on Article 370. Any keen observer and political commentator of any standing would at once vouch for the fact that Article 370 has only vitiated the whole atmosphere in the state, with its population, barring a handful of vested interests, being denied the rights which are available to the rest of the Indian population. These vested interests misuse Article 370 to harm interests of SCs, STs, OBCs, refugees from West Pakistan and POJK, entire female population and minorities and hold the state aloof from the national mainstream. It is not for nothing that the Panun Kashmir and the internally displaced Kashmiri Hindus and organizations of SCs, STs, OBCs, refugees from West Pakistan and POJK, including the BSP, Panthers Party, Jammu State Morcha, Shiv Sena and many other social and political groups, have been demanding abrogation of Article 370 saying this Article has made their life a veritable hell on earth. It is ludicrous that the NC, which stands for separation from India on the ground that state is Muslim-majority overlooking the fact that the non-Muslims constitute almost 40 per cent of the population in J&K, terms the BJP with which it worked for years and shared political power, terms the main opposition national party as fascist, communal, divisive and parochial, conveniently forgetting the fact that the latter stands for justice for all and appeasement to none and considers India first. Even more questionable is the kind of politics the NC has been playing as far as Article 370 is concerned. It only issues statements but doesn't join debate. It doesn't join debate because it cannot defend its stand which is absolutely untenable. It knows the moment it enters into debate on Article 370, it would get exposed in no time. If it has the guts to face the critics of the anti-people, anti-democratic and divisive Article 370, it must come forward and join the debate. But it will not do that as it is capable of only playing politics of statements and rabble-rousing. |
