| Gen VK Singh unlikely to appear before LC panel today | | Summons not accepted by him........! | | Kunal Shrivatsa JAMMU, Jan 21: Even as speculations are agog that whether General (Retd) VK Singh would appear before the Privilege Committee of Legislative Council (LC) tomorrow or not, the summons sent to former army chief by the Committee were not accepted by him. If sources are to be believed, the summons served upon General VK Singh through Principal Secretary Home Haryana and Director General of Police Haryana could not be delivered at the desired destination as the former chief probably refused to accept it. Sources further revealed that the envelope containing the summons was received as it is by the Legislative Council Secretariat last evening. "It seems that General VK Singh has refused to acknowledge the summons as the Council Secretariat received the same packet yesterday which was mailed a few days back to the authorities in Haryana to be delivered to General Singh, who resides in Gurgaon," sources said "Since General VK Singh did not accept the summons issued by the Privilege Committee, it is now a foregone conclusion that he would now come to appear before the Committee," sources said. Sources further said that already facing the ire of J&K State Legislature over his pay-off allegations, the latest action of General VK Singh could further annoy the members of the Upper House particularly the Privilege Committee, who was anticipating General Singh's appearance tomorrow. It was yesterday only that the Privilege Committee under the chairmanship of Congress MLC Jugal Kishore Sharma had reiterated its resolve to summon General VK Singh as the Committee which held closed door meeting to discuss the reply to the breach of privilege notice sent by General Singh. One of the members of the Privilege Committee soon after coming out of meeting room said, "Summons issued to Ex Army Chief General V K Singh stands in place." Taking exception to General Singh's 'casual' reply which was not only addressed to the officer of the rank of Additional Secretary but also responded through his Advocate Vishawjeet Singh, the Committee decided that it would not seek anything less than former army chief's personal appearance before it. It is pertinent to mention here that the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council took strong exception to General Singh's 'pay off' allegations and both Houses referred the issue to respective Privilege Committees who in turn summoned ex-Army Chief to clear his stand. |
