| PDD remains unconcerned as Rajouri faces acute power shortage | | | RAJOURI, Jan 21: For the last few days inhabitants of Rajouri district specially inhabitants of Rajouri city have been forced by the Power department to adopt traditional ways including candles , pinewood sticks, kerosene lamps and lanterns as make shift arrangements for lighting as no power runs in high tension wires for more than 18-20 hours a day. While people, students, businessmen and others are holding protests on the roads but the Power Development Department officials are nowhere to be seen. Many senior Power officials including Sectional Engineer (SE), Executive Engineer, AEEs only issuing statements by sitting either in their offices or in their residences that the common people are responsible for creating power scarcity by using double of the power supplied to meet the need of the district. "Overloading and theft of power has created a big gap between supply and consumption and the department was forced to snap the power to save their costly equipments," said Superintending Engineer S Jameel. Today a delegation of student unions of Post Graduation Government Degree College visited the office of Executive Engineer and asked him to ensure smooth power supply within next 2-3 days. Otherwise, the students will come on roads and department and district administration would be responsible for any untoward incident. The delegation was joined by Nadeem Mir, president PG college student union, Piyush Mahajan and Azad Rahat president and general secretary ABVP unit of PG college. |
