Vaishno Devi pilgrimage witnesses downward trend | Authorities term ceasefire violation , flash floods as reason behind decline | | Shiv Dev Thakur Early Times Report Katra, Nov 2 : The holy Vaishno Devi pilgrimage has witnessed a downward trend for the past over two months. Unprecedented rains and floods, that wreaked havoc in the state in September last, and the ceasefire violation by Pak in October are termed as the reasons behind it. The officials said after the September rains and resultant floods, the pilgrimage decreased. It further decreased following heavy shelling and gunfire on the borders by Pakistan, they added. According the data available with Early Times, Several pilgrims cancelled their advance bookings made for their hotel stay at Katra, Shiv-Khori and Patnitop. Many others had cancelled their chopper tickets from Katra to Sanjichhat which they had booked in advance. The officials claimed that the number of yatries who came to Katra this year was below expectations. The number started decreasing after the ceasefire violation and unprovoked firing by the Pakistani Rangers, they claimed. Some Katra hotliers said their business was affected badly by the rains and border firing. |
