Rajouri, Nov 2: Stray, intermittent incidents of stone pelting allegedly by some miscreants during last few days have been giving sleepless night to Rajouri Police.
On Thursday and Friday, for two consecutive days the miscreants threw stones and a glass bottle in the busy chowk of old Rajouri city but no one was injured; however, a show window of a medical shop was damaged.
On the initiative of Dr Haseeb Mughal, SSP, a meeting of the prominent citizens was held on Saturday to seek the suggestions and support of the people. Meeting was chaired by Additional SP and also attended by Dy SP HQs, Dy SP operations and SHO Rajouri.
The residents of old Rajouri city extended their full support to the police in their efforts to arrest the miscreants who according to some prominent citizens have been hell bent to disturb the peace and communal harmony in Rajouri city.
Some were of the view that some anti-national, anti-social elements were behind such miscreants to disturb the ensuing election process.
Some suggested that there should not be any power curtailment between 5 pm and 10 pm in the old city as stones and bottle were thrown when the power was off.
Police officers assured that the suggestions extended by the citizens will be implemented.
The whole area around city chowk is under the strict surveillance of policemen in plain clothes for the last few days but despite strict surveillance the miscreants again struck and a piece of brick was thrown that fell at city chowk at about 7.30 pm on Saturday.
Immediately after the brick was thrown police cordoned the whole area but the miscreants managed to give slip again.
During mid night raids to book some suspects in stone throwing police apprehended two youths but they turned out to be involved in drug trafficking and about 10 grm Charas was recovered from their possession.
A senior police officer said that they are on the job to arrest the stone thrower and soon he/they will be in their custody.
He added that during sustained interrogation, the drug peddlers have disclosed the names of their few more colleagues and police party is on job to trace them.
