'NC leader ignoring people filling his own coffers'

Early Times Report

Vijaypur, Nov 2 : In yet another instance of National Conference and Congress enjoying an "unholy alliance" during the past six years, the former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh today lambasted the NC MLA for ignoring the down trodden people of this vital constituency in the Jammu region.
Addressing various election rallies Singh alleged that National Conference MLA during the past six years made the residents of
Bari Brahmana, Meen Sarkar,Meen Charkan,Bari-Bodhari and other areas suffer and kept on "filling his own coffers."
"These areas have not witnessed any development during all these years. Taps run dry for at least 15-days in a month and people have to pay through their nose to get the drinking water. The money meant for developmental schemes and other works was swindled by the MLA and his men," Singh alleged.
He said that it's unfortunate that National Conference MLA is least bothered about the plight of the people belonging to down trodden section of the society. "These people have no access to the MLA nor has he ever visited them to see how they are living," he added.
He appealed people to give Congress a chance so that developmental works could be taken up. "We couldn't do much as NC never allowed us to work for you, that is why we have left them. I hope people will teach them a lesson and will repose their faith in Congress," he added.
Pertinently, a few days before, Singh had toed the line ofSalman Anees Soz, son of Prof Saifuddin Soz, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee Chief, and had sought the intervention of the Election Commission of India to end the alleged misuse of funds meant for the flood victims in the Vijaypur constituency. Junior Soz too had asked the ECI to keep an eye over the "transfer industry" in the state. Addressing the party workers Singh had alleged, "District administration is violating Model Code of Conduct in Vijaypur and is following the diktats of a local National Conference MLA. I appeal ECI to order a probe into misuse of funds meant for flood hit people."
He had alleged that funds meant for flood victims were being used for electioneering in the constituency. "The NC MLA is issuing orders and officials are following these," he had alleged.
Singh had claimed that the NC MLA in order to appease his own people has asked the administration to allot the unapproved works to his men.
Singh had alleged that the officials of RDD and PWD department are violating the MCC to "appease their boss"( NC MLA).
The former Congress Minister launching a scathing attack on a NC leader has once again exposed the level of "mistrust" between the two coalition partners who ruled Jammu and Kashmir for the past six years. The former Minister for Irrigation and Flood Control and senior Congress leader Sham Lal Sharma after tendering his resignation last month had admitted that there was lack of coordination among the coalition partners. The NC-Cong coalition ending at a bitter note has proved that it was a "marriage of inconvenience" which added to the miseries of people for six years.
