Kargil, Nov 2 : Shia dominated border town of Kargil, where people are observing Muharram is facing acute power crisis after the 44-MW Chutak power project developed some problem last month. The power project built by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) at a cost of Rs 894 crores on Suru river (tributary of Indus river) has stopped generation for the several weeks. The project dedicated to nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has developed some problem which has not been sorted out yet with the result entire Kargil district, where Shia population was observing Muharram, martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, grandson of Prophet Muhammad. During these holy days when people are organising Muharram processions and "Marsia" during night, there is darkness everywhere, people alleged. Kargil is going to polls on November 25 alongwith 14 other constituencies in the first of five phase Assembly polls in the Jammu and Kashmir, where notification for first phase has already been issued by the Election Commission. |
