Intelligence agencies told to coordinate | Keep security agencies informed about militant plans | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 2 : The Government has asked various central and state intelligence agencies to coordinate their efforts so that the security agencies and the union Home Ministry were informed on time about the plans of militants and separatists in Jammu and Kashmir where the Assembly elections are being held shortly. Official sources said that the Government has laid emphasis on added cooperation among various intelligence agencies which could keep the Government informed in advance about the designs of militants and separatists so that timely action was taken to ensure incident free election process. According to these sources, security forces have been told to remain on the alert and initiate swift action against any mischief mongers. Sources said that action has been initiated against those separatists who were motivating people to stay away from the poll process. However, reports from the separatists' camp indicated that even if top separatists were arrested large number of people were going to respond to their call for poll boycott. Senior Hurriyat leader, Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat, has said that even if a section of people cast their votes it would not settle the Kashmir issue. The Kashmir issue will remain alive till it was resolved as per the wishes of people of the state. Meanwhile, mainstream political parties plan to intensify their poll campaign to ensure increased participation of people. The PDP, the NC and the Congress hope that the ensuing elections may be a tussle not only among the contesting candidates but between the mainstream political parties and the separatists. They said that if the security forces succeeded in keeping militants under check the upcoming election may be incident free. |
