No Sikh member again in Assembly, fails to win any seat | | | Sandeep Bhat
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 23: Though members of the Sikh community were given mandate by every political party in the state, none of them has won the elections. The Sikh community has a sizable population all over the state but none of its members has won in the last two assembly elections. While NC this time fielded Surinder Singh Bunty from Gandhi Nagar and Taranjeet Singh Tony from Suchetgarh, PDP fielded Amrik Singh Reen from Gandhi Nagar and T S Bajwa from Suchetgarh. Congress fielded Surinder Singh Shingari from Jammu West and BJP fielded Avatar Singh Khalsa. Apart from them, there were some independent Sikh candidates also. But no candidate from the community has made it to the assembly this time also. Talking to Early Times, inderjeet Singh, said, "No doubt, we don't have any representative in the assembly, there should be a representative in the Upper House. There should be an adequate representation in legislation and this is a right of the community." Many others from the community feel that a representation be given to the community in the legislative council. |
