Only 27 average days work to each household
MNREGA loosing charm in J&K

JAMMU, Dec 23: The much hyped scheme of Union government Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) has hailed to provide even minimum employment guaranteed under scheme as against 100 days minimum work under the scheme, only 27 days employment has been provided so far in J&K till December 2014.
According to documents available with Early Times on an average only 27 days work has been provided to each household, who had sought work under the scheme, which is against the spirit of MNREGA which guarantees minimum working days of 100 days.
A total of 210335 households across 22 districts of state had demanded employments under the scheme but only 127401 households were given jobs, which means that only 60 percent households were given jobs so far, while rest 40 percent were without jobs.
As per data furnished in year 2011-12, averagely 48 households got jobs, while in 2012-13, average 57 days were given jobs while in 2013-14, the average working days declined to 51, which was nearly half of average days guaranteed.
Moreover, as per district figures in district Doda 1167 households had demanded work but only 539 were given jobs, while in district Kupwara 17628 had demanded jobs but only 10401 were provided, in Poonch 13679 had demanded employment but 10849 were provided the same.
In Anantnag a total of 13376 had demanded employment but only 8911 were given but in Jammu 13485 had sought and only 9090 were given jobs, while in Budgam 17264 had sought employment and only 7196 were given.
In Bandipora 8141 had applied and 4250 were given, in Baramulla 26950 had sought 17422 were given, Ganderbal 7773 had sought but 2275 were given, Kargil 14814 had applied but 9479 were given, Kathua 6840 had sought 5203 were given, Kishtwar 5011 had sought 940 were given, Kulgam 14401 had sought 8082 were given.
Moreover in Leh 7434 had sought 6547 were given, in Pulwama 10584 had sought 7322 were given, Rajouri 10781 had sought 6909 were given, Ramban 174 had sought 17 were given, Reasi 859 had sought 122 were given, Samba 4075 had applied 2671 were given, Shopian 7527 had sought 4526 were given, Srinagar 924 had sought and 658 were given, while in Udhampur 7448 had sought 3992 were given.
