Early Times Report

BARAMULLA, Dec 23: Out of seven assembly constituencies of Baramulla district PDP won five constituencies, while as Yawar Dilawar Mir of PDP has made a record to become the youngest MLA in the history of J&K. However Sopore and Uri constituencies went into the favor of Mohammad Shafi of NC and Abdul Rashid Dar of Congress.
For the 12th general assembly elections, results were declared on December 23, in which Peoples Democratic Party has won 28 seats in Jammu and Kashmir State followed by Bharatiya Janta Party 25 out of 87.
In Baramulla assembly constituency Javid Ahmad Baigh of PDP has defeated its close revivals Ghulam Hassan Rahi, by a vote margin of 7017 votes.
PDP's candidate got total 14418 votes, NC's candidate Rahi got only 7401 votes and Congress candidate Salman Anees Soz, son of state Congress president Prof Saif Ud Din Soz by 6805 votes.
In Sangrama constituency former broadcaster and sitting MLA Basharat Bukhari registered his second consecutive win from Sangrama defeating his nearest rival Congress's Shoiab Lone by 1754 votes.
In Sangrama the main contest was between Basharat and Lone. In 2008 assembly elections Bukhari had defeated Congress's Lone by 1330 votes.
It was an entirely surprising contest in Pattan, late Ansari's death had sent his son Imran Ansari to fight from Pattan.
This time Imran had neck-to-neck fight against NC's Aga Syed Mehmood Al Mosavi in Pattan for 2014 polls. However, when the EVMs were opened on Tuesday, the results showed an overwhelming voter support in favour of Imran.
Imran Ansari had secured 21218 votes against Mosavi's figure of 11884 votes.
Previously represented by late Ansari for four-times, Imran has kept the winning legacy of his late father in Pattan, alive.
In Rafiabad constituency the son of PDP General Secretary Mohammad Dilawar Mir, Yawar Ahmad Mir won Rafiabad defeating his closest rival Congress's Abdul Gani Vakil by 2334 votes.
A law graduate from ILS Pune and LLM from Nottingham University UK, Yawar is a debutant who polled 17918 against Vakil's 15584 votes. NC's Dar stood third by polling 14980 votes.
Whereas in Gulmarag constituency The 'controversial' Ghulam Hassan Mir, enjoying ministerial berths from last 30 years has lost Gulmarag to PDP's Muhammad Abbas Wani by 2937 votes.
Mir was the only known face of his Democratic Party (Nationalist) seeking another term from Gulmarg. A three-time MLA Gulmarg, Mir is known to stay close to power canters.
Accused of favouritism people believe that only those close to Mir were benefited in Gulmarg. Slamming Mir's selective approach, a contractor-turned-politician, Abbas Wani highlighted "Mir's failures" to woo the voters.
However Sopore constituency was won by Congress candidate Abdul Rashid Dar by a vote margin of 2755 Votes. Sopore is believed to be bastion of Syed Ali Gelatin, however NC candidate got total 8429 votes and PDP candidate got 5677.
Meanwhile in Uri, Mohammad Shafi of NC has won Uri constituency for the sixth time by 5722 votes.
