PDP falls well short of target gets 25 seats from Kashmir valley; NC finishes second
Some bigwigs of NC, PDP bite dust from valley, BJP draws a blank

Srinagar, Dec 23: As the curtains came down on the election process in the state, People's Democratic Party (PDP) emerged as the single largest party in the state with 28 seats. The party won 25 seats below the expected range of 28-33 seats from Kashmir. Much on the expected lines Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) could not open its account in the valley.
PDP made inroads in the summer capital by winning five out of the eight seats while as the National Conference won three seats. In the previous assembly elections all the eight seats of Srinagar had been won by National Conference. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was among the losers from the Srinagar district after he lost to Mohammad Ashraf Mir of People's Democratic Party.
Some of the notable winners from Kashmir are Mufti Mohammad Sayeed (Anantnag), Omar Abdullah (Beerwah), Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami (Kulgam), Hakeem Mohammad Yasin (Khan Saheb), Dr. Haseeb Drabu (Rajpora), Abdul Rahim Rather PDP (Kokernag), Yawar Ahmad Mir (Rafiabad), Mohammad Abbas Wani (Gulmarg), Sajad Gani Lone (Handwara) and Usman Abdul Majeed (Bandipora).
Prominent personalities who lost the election include Abdul Rahim Rather, National Conference (Charar-I-Sharief), Mohammad Sartaj Madni (Devsar), Omar Abdullah (Sonwar), Ghulam Hassan Mir (Gulmarg), Rafi Ahmad Mir (Pahalgam), Abdul Gaffar Sofi (Home Shalibugh), Sakina Itoo (Noorabad), Nasir Aslam Wani (Amira Kadal), Dr. Mustafa Kamaal (Gulmarg), Taj Mohi-ud-din (Uri), Ghulam Ahmad Mir (Dooru) and Mir Saifullah (Kupwara).
Besides winning five seats from Srinagar, PDP won seats in seven other districts of Kashmir valley. The party could not win any seat from the Ganderbal and Bandipora districts. The party could not open also its account from Ladakh region with the three seats from the region won by Congress and the fourth one being bagged by an Independent candidate supported by National Conference.
People's Democratic Party won two seats in Budgam district, four seats in Anantnag district, four seats in Pulwama, two seats in Shopian district, one seat in Kulgam district, five seats in Baramulla district and two seats in Kupwara district. The party lost some seats which they had won in the previous assembly elections.
National Conference which had 28 legislators in the previous assembly had a loss of 13 seats with the party winning 15 seats in 2014 assembly elections. The party won 12 seats from the Kashmir valley including some seats which they had lost in the 2008 assembly elections. The party's coalition partner Congress won four seats from the Kashmir valley.
In the Srinagar district, PDP emerged victorious from Sonwar, Batmaloo, Amira Kadal, Zadibal and Hazratbal assembly seats. From the party Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Noor Mohammad Sheikh, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Abid Hussain Ansari and Aasiya Naqash emerged victorious from the summer capital. Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mubarak Ahmad Gul and Shameema Firdous of National Conference emerged winners from Khanyar, Eidgah and Habba Kadal seats of Srinagar district.
In the Budgam district, Ghulam Nabi Lone (Hanjura) and Javed Mustafa Mir of PDP emerged victorious from Charar-I-Sharief and Chadoora constituencies. Omar Abdullah and Aga Syed Ruhullah of National Conference emerged victors from Beerwah and Budgam constituencies while as Hakeem Mohammad Yasin of People's Democratic Front won from the Khan Saheb assembly seat.
In the Ganderbal district, Mian Altaf Ahmad and Ishfaq Ahmad Sheikh of National Conference emerged victorious from Kangan and Ganderbal constituencies. In South Kashmir's Pulwama district PDP emerged victorious from all the four seats. Party candidates Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, Mohammad Khalil Bandh and Dr. Haseeb Drabu won from Pampore, Tral, Pulwama and Rajpora seats in the district.
In the Anantnag district, PDP won four out of the six seats with the other two being won by National Conference and Congress. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Abdul Rehman Bhat (Veeri), Abdul Rahim Rather and Farooq Ahmad Andrabi of PDP won from Anantnag, Bijbehara, Kokernag and Dooru assembly seats. National Conference's Altaf Ahmad Wani (Kaloo) won from Pahalgam while as Gulzar Ahmad Wani of Congress won from Shangus.
In the Shopian district both the seats were won by PDP with Mohammad Yusuf Bhat and Aijaz Ahmad Mir emerging victorious from Shopian and Wachi assembly seats respectively. In the Kulgam district, a seat each was won by PDP, Congress, NC and CPI (M). PDP's Abdul Majid Paddar won from Noorabad, Congress party's candidate Mohammad Amin Bhat won from Devsar, NC's candidate Abdul Majeed Bhat won from Home Shalibugh and CPI (M) candidate Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami won from Kulgam seat.
In North Kashmir's Baramulla district, PDP won five seats while as a seat each was won by Congress and National Conference. Mohammad Abbas Wani, Imran Raza Ansari, Javed Hussain Beigh, Yawar Ahmad Mir and Syed Basharat Bukhari of PDP won from Gulmarg, Pattan, Baramulla, Rafiabad and Sangrama constituencies respectively. Abdul Rashid Dar of Congress and Mohammad Shafi Uri of NC won from the Sopore and Uri assembly seats respectively.
In the Kupwara district, two seats each were won by PDP and People's Conference while as one seat went to Awami Itihaad Party (AIP). Abdul Haq Khan and Raja Manzoor of PDP won from the Lolab and Karnah assembly seats. Sajad Gani Lone and Bashir Ahmad Dar of Peoples Conference won from the Handwara and Kupwara assembly seats. Engineer Abdul Rashid of AIP emerged victorious from the Langate assembly seat.
In the Bandipora district, National Conference won two seats while as Congress emerged victorious on one seat. Mohammad Akbar Lone and Nazir Ahmad Khan (Gurezi) of NC won from the Sonawari and Gurez assembly seats with the Bandipora seat won by Usman Abdul Majeed of Congress. In the Ladakh region, Congress won from Leh, Nobra and Kargil seats while as the Zanaskar seat was won by an independent supported by National Conference.
