Modi wave doesn't help BJP in Udhampur District | BJP pockets Ramnagar, Chenani, loses Udhampur | | Sarita Jamwal

Udhampur, Dec 23: Though Modi wave swayed entire Jammu province where BJP succeeded in winning 25 seats, it failed to help BJP in Udhampur constituency where independent Candidate, Pawan Kumar Gupta who had deserted party after not getting mandate won the election and was declared elected as Member Legislative Assembly from Udhampur-60 constituency of district Udhampur by defeating two time MLA his nearest rival of JKNPP Balwant Singh Mankotia with a margin of 14650 votes. In Udhampur Constituency, out of total 85091 votes polled, Independent winning candidate Gupta got 36226 including 198 Postal votes, the runner up JKNPP candidate Balwant Singh Mankotia got 21576 while 20174 votes were polled in favour of BJP candidate, Pawan Khajuria who remained third in the contest. Out of total three assembly seats in the udhampur district BJP managed to won two seats. In Chenani constituency Dina Nath Bhagat of BJP was declared elected as MLA from Chenani-61 constituency. He defeated his nearest rival of Indian National Congress(INC), Krishan Chander with a lead of 20332 votes. In Chenani constituency 66199 votes were polled out of which the winning candidate of BJP got 33047 votes including 155 postal ballots while former MLA, INC candidate got 12715 votes and Dhani Ram Atri of JKNPP who remained third in the contest, could get only 11992 votes. In Ramnagar -62 constituency Ranbir Singh Pathania of BJP defeated his nearest rival Three times MLA Harash Dev Singh of JKNPP with a margin of 17420 votes. Out of total 82479 polled votes, the BJP candidate in Ramnagar got 45 891 votes including 508 Postal Ballots while 28471 electorates cast votes in favour of former MLA of JKNPP candidate. . Raj Kapoor of JKNC could get only 3073 votes to remain third in the contest. After the declaration of result formally by election officer people took to the street in favour of their candidates and burst crackers and distributed sweets in Udhampur, Ramnagar and Chenani and raised slogans in favor of their candidates dancing at the beats of drum. |
