Ban reconversions based on false asurances: CPI-M | | | Agencies
NEW DELHI, Dec 23: In the wake of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's recent remarks that conversions will continue to take place in the country, CPI(M) today demanded ban on re-conversions based on "false" assurances and inducements and sought action against those disrupting the communal harmony. The party's Polit Bureau which met today said that despite repeated demands in the Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has refused to spell out the stand of the government on reconversion issue. "The CPI(M) demands that such re-conversions based on false assurances and inducements and with state patronage be prohibited with immediate effect. "Action should be taken under the relevant provisions of the law against those who are organizing such activities which are disruptive of communal harmony and creating communal tensions," the party said in a statement. The RSS chief had recently said that 'Ghar Vapsi' or conversions will take place as all the Muslims and Christians in India were converted from Hinduism, creating a controversy. The party said that after the Narendra Modi government came to power, the Hindutva agenda is being implemented in various spheres in which one is the re-conversion drive aimed at bringing Muslims and Christians 'back' to the Hindu fold. The party said that the communal aim of this so-called 'ghar vapsi' has been spelt out by Bhagwat himself and plans for such reconversion events have been announced for Christmas day as well. Citing the example of Uttar Pradesh government which has registered cases and taken action against the organisers of the Agra "reconversion", the party said that similar action must be taken by other state governments as well. Noting the involvement of Trinamool Congress leadership and ministers in the Saradha chit fund scandal, the Polit Bureau also condemned the efforts of the Chief Minister (Mamata Banerjee) and her Ministry to "scuttle" the investigation. "All the evidence points to the involvement of the highest level in the state government in West Bengal which should lead to the interrogation of the Chief Minister (Mamata Banerjee) herself by the CBI," the party said. The party said that it is essential that the CBI makes a full and comprehensive investigation and there should be coordination between the various investigation agencies under the central government like the SEBI, SFIO, CBI and ED. The Polit Bureau also finalised the draft review report on the political-tactical line and the Draft Political Resolution for the 21st Congress scheduled to take place in Vishakhapatnam in April next year. "These will be presented to the Central Committee in January for discussion and adoption," the party said. Rocked by serious differences over reasons that led to its decline and the way out, CPI(M)'s Central Committee had asked the top leadership to place a fresh draft on the political-tactical line to be adopted by the Left party to rejuvenate its organisation and overcome political isolation. The party also strongly opposed the Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Bill which has been passed by the Lok Sabha and is awaiting clearance by the Rajya Sabha and extended its support to the five day strike from January 6-10, 2015 called by coal workers unions. CPI(M) said that the Bill will pave the way for private commercial mining in the coal sector apart from spelling out the method of allocation of coal blocks with captive mining. "The provisions in the Bill if adopted will reverse the nationalization of the coal industry in 1971. The Modi government is taking this step to facilitate the profiteering and the loot of this precious national resource by the big capital. "The Polit Bureau calls for a strong resistance to this measure. The CPI(M) extends its full support to the five day strike call given by all the coal workers' unions from January 6-10, 2015," it said. Elaborating about the Kerala Bribery Case, the party said that an FIR has been lodged against Finance Minister K M Mani by the vigilance department in the bar bribery case. "Yet the minister has not resigned and the Chief Minister and the UDF are sheltering him. The Polit Bureau reiterated the demand that K M Mani should resign forthwith from the state cabinet. "The charges leveled on some other ministers and leaders for taking bribes from the bar owners should also be fully probed and action taken," the party said. In a major embarrassment to the Congress-led UDF government in Kerala, state finance minister KM Mani was recently booked by Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Act. |
