Only two women make it to Legislative Assembly

Srinagar, Dec 23: Only two women candidates made it to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly this time.
Shamima Firdous of National Conference (NC) retained the Habba Kadal seat for the party for the second time, defeating her nearest BJP candidat Moti Koul.
Asiea of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made it to the House for the first time from Hazratbal constituency.
However, both the BJP candidates-from Amira Kadal Dr Hina Bhat and Dr Darakha Andrabi from Sonawar seat lost.
Sakina Itoo, a senior NC minister, who was seeking re-election from Noorabad also lost.
With the Bhartiya Janta Party becoming the second largest party in the Jammu and Kashmir by winning 25 seats, the senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Wednesday thanked the people of Jammu and Kashmir for showing their trust and support in the BJP.
He also said that people have rejected the bullet with ballot and said that the kind of results of Jammu and Kashmir is for the first time, the best performance of BJP in the history.
Talking to Kashmir News Service Rajanth Singh said, "I congratulate the people of Jammu and Kashmir for supporting the Bhartiya Janta Party. The people here chose the path of Democracy by rejecting the Boycott calls and threats. In the whole Jammu and Kashmir history BJP has won so many seats. The tremendous increase of votes in the state indicates that the people have faith in the Bhartiya Janta Party," he said.
He said that it is the victory of ballot over the bullet. "Despite the terror threats the people come out and voted in large numbers.



It is the victory of ballot over the bullet .We should not forget the role of our leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi who despite the busy schedules visited the state a number of times and took part in the campaigning of BJP candidates," he said.
He said that in a very short time we have managed to get a good vote share in the Valley. "After coming in power in the centre the BJP for the first time worked very hard to gain trust and faith of the people by campaigning on a large scale. The party is thankful to its cadres for making the BJP success a reality," he said and congratulated the BJP candidates who have won the elections.
