Sinha-led team to visit Valley again
11/4/2016 11:12:04 PM

Early Times Report
srinagar, Nov 4: Former Union External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha is all set to again lead a track-II delegation to the restive Kashmir Valley that remains shut for the last four months.
Sinha led a five-member team to the Valley last month. The team called on hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani at his residence on October 25. Before meeting Geelani, Sinha told reporters that they had not come as a delegation.
The Sinha-led team comprised of former Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah, former Air-Vice Marshal Kapil Kak, veteran journalist Bharat Bhushan, and Executive Director of the Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation, Sushobha Barve.
After landing in Srinagar, the team members drove to the residence of Geelani, where they were received warmly.
The delegation members told Geelani that there was no political agenda behind their visit.
Meanwhile, one of the members of the group, Bharat Bhushan has said in an interview that the team is going to visit Kashmir soon again to assess the situation and deliberate upon the ways that could help in ending the four-month turmoil.
Bushan has said that during their earlier visit they met several civil society activists, trade union leaders, separatists and leaders of the mainstream parties.
Pertinently, Sinha earlier had tried to clear the air, saying they have not come here as a part of any delegation. "We have come here for humanity. Talks were held in a very good atmosphere," he said.
Meanwhile, another visit of this group is again aimed to break some ice in the Valley so that normal life could resume at an earliest.
Pertinently, separatists including Geelani haven't exhibited any flexibility in the strike calendar that his amalgam in consultation with Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik issue every week.
Though many people were expecting a change in policy from the separatists after meeting the delegation, what raised several eyebrows was the position of Geelani and his aides.
